I felt a similar sense of unexpected joy when I separated from my daughter's father. Of course, there was fear because she was still an infant, but it forced her father to have to get along without me when he had her, and I do believe it allowed him to better understand how much time, effort, and energy goes into caring for a child's needs. Thank you for this insight, beautiful as always.

This article found me when I most needed it. I’m coming off a stint of solo parenting with a toddler (so very intensive parenting) and so much of what you have written is exactly what I would write too. Thank you for making me feel seen. 💞

Yes, solo parenting with a toddler is a whole different ball game in some ways, but I'm glad some of this resonated. Solidarity!

Thank you for sharing your story! Solo parenting can be tough but also so much easier for many of the reasons that you outlined.

This is beautifully written. I am a solo parent for 1/2 the time as my husband works away from home for 2 week rotations. Our kids are both autistic ADHDers, so there’s an extra layer to the parenting stress, but most of what you wrote rings very true. I like my solo parenting time because I actually get alone time once the kids are asleep!

That alone time is so precious. For the first time in years, I can hear myself think!
